For Parents:
Let my kid go all the way to New Zealand alone?
It’s not as crazy as it sounds — All-Star has been bringing clients between the ages of 12 and 18 to New Zealand and returning them safely home for the past eight years. Our experienced staff of coaches and counselors provide round-the-clock supervision, both on and off the hill. Better yet, it’s a group of counselors that your kid will actually want to hang out with. Take a few minutes and read through the Q&A below, and then call us to find out how your teenager can join us for the experience of a lifetime. But, be warned...most of our Clients want to come back year after year.
Is New Zealand safe?
Yes, very. The South Island of New Zealand where our tour is held is in the heart of the Lakes Region. We are located in Wanaka, which is a small and quiet lakeside resort village. Like anywhere, there is petty theft and such. We follow simple protocols like locking up, and not leaving valuables in open site or unattended at the mountains. Under-18 Clients are always with an All-Star guide, and we have a perfect safety record.
What about Auckland? How will my son/daughter make the transfer to the domestic airport?
Upon landing in Auckland your teen will take a short walk or bus to the domestic terminal. The Auckland airport is very safe and quiet, with plenty of airport staff to assist. All of our under-18 Clients have had nothing but success with this transfer.
What will my teenager need to clear customs without me?
Your son/daughter will need 3 Documents to clear customs in Auckland:
- Valid Passport (Make 3 copies and place them in separate bags! You can also scan and save on an iPod. An iPod acts just like an external drive on your computer...simply drag and drop into a new folder for PC users)
- Notarized Parental Consent & Travel Authorization Letter (provided with registration kit)
Can my teenager ride alone while at the mountain?
No. Your son/daughter will be placed into a group based on their ability level and goals for the session. Some groups will focus on all mountain free riding, while others will focus on freestyle or park skills. Their guide/coach will be responsible for supervision while on the mountain. We maintain constant radio contact with all groups while on the mountain, in addition to cell phones. All-Star also communicates with the Ski Patrol when required.
Will my son/daughter get to experience New Zealand culture?
Absolutely. All-Star staff routinely schedules excursions to various cultural attractions and Queenstown, the Adventure Capital of the World. Supervision will be provided at all times on these excursions.
Access to this trip is limited. Space fills up quickly - these powder tours are one of our most popular.
